Event #3

Hammer Museum and Technology (approved)

Steering away from the typical events, I decided to get creative and roam around the Hammer museum.  While I was there, I noticed that most art in most museums is just a painting or drawing or even a sculpture.  This form of art dates back to when society first began, always having a visual and a way for art to be displayed.  However, I always wondered what the true meaning behind the art stands for, or even what the purpose or the mindset going into the art.  Thankfully, the Hammer museum allowed for a new form of technology, an audio and presentation as if you are a part of a group, being told what the art that is being shown is truly about.  This all stems through technology.

The use of technology allows art to stand on a whole new pedestal.  Andrea Fraser was able to connect to the audience through the use of technology describing her interpretations and input on the art viewed.  This goes to show the importance when art is related to technology, or at least how technology can aid and improve art as a general category.  I felt more aware, more interested, and had a better background of what I was viewing and the purpose behind it all through the words she utilizes.  In addition to it all, Andrea Fraser also explains the reasons behind her performances and speeches, giving more ways she expressed herself through art.

I would strongly recommend this visit, as I found the use of technology through explanation to be very beneficial in my understanding of art, nd was also served with a little more background.  The understanding of how technology aids art is further developed through the exploration here, and also other technology based presentations and art is coming to the Hammer Museum. There is also a great café with could tables and chairs that are also viewed as different forms of art.  I would highly recommend a visit and throughouly enjoyed my time here and better understanding of the benefits behind technology in relation to art.
